Facebook Launches Star Ratings for Pages

Facebook Launches 5 Star Ratings for Facebook Business Pages - What does this mean for your business?

What do the 5 Star Ratings on Facebook Pages Mean?
What Do The 5 Star Ratings on Facebook Mean For your Business Page?
Many of your Facebook Business Pages will look a little different this morning!  Facebook has had the option of leaving a rating or a review for businesses on mobile devices when they check-in the a specific business location.  This combined with the new Reviews for Facebook Desktop - has all been combined and now appears on some business pages just below their business name as a Star Rating.  (See a screen print of some of our client's ratings on the first day of release from facebook)

How Do I Add Star Ratings To My Facebook Page?
To Add Facebook Star Ratings to your Facebook Page - you will need to have your Business Location activated.  This means, in the address section of the set-up of your page, your address must be selected and the "Enable Check-in's" box must be ticked.  You can access this by going to Edit Page, Page Info, Address.
We're extending star ratings on Facebook from mobile to desktop — to make it easier for people to discover great businesses around them," a Facebook spokeswoman said. "This is beneficial for both businesses and consumers. Star ratings encourage more people to rate a business, making it eligible to appear in the News Feed and help others discover a business they didn't know about previously. For businesses themselves, this also leads to greater brand awareness."

"Now we're bringing the visibility of star ratings to a more prominent spot at the top of Pages' timeline on desktop and to the preview in News Feed," the spokeswoman said.

What Will Star Ratings Mean for my Business?
One Advantage of Star Ratings will mean that despite the number of Likes on your page - new customers may choose to take notice of your Star rating instead of your Fan numbers.
Businesses who provide great customer service but only have a small amount of followers will benefit from customers interacting regularly with the page and leaving positive reviews and feedback.
It is unknown as of yet, if Facebook will use Star Ratings to display your page in the search feature.
For Tourism and Hospitality Businesses - this is another Review Site to add to the long list of ones they allready monitor and manage.

How Do I Remove a Review on my Facebook Page?
Page Managers can scroll over the particular review on their page and press the x button to remove the review.  It is possible that this feature may be removed however.

How are Star Ratings Decided?
Star Ratings are supposed to be decided by an average by the reviews left on the Facebook Page. This however seems to be a "fuzzy" area at this stage as some of my client's have only had 5 star reviews on their pages from happy customers, but have received a minimal three star rating?  In the coming weeks there should be more information supplied by facebook on how the Stars are decided.

I will aim to keep you updated with the latest news on Star Ratings as soon as the information comes to hand from Facebook.

What Star rating is your page and how do you feel about that?

There is nothing worse than being tagged in a photo on Facebook - that you don't approve of.  Only people from your friends list can tag you so if you are being tagged in spam like on-line shopping promotions- it's time to delete that friend. Trying to remove a tag from a photo can be frustrating if you don't know how - but it is quick and easy.  You will need a computer to do this as some mobile devices won't be able to make these changes.

Easy Steps to Remove a Tag from a Facebook Photo.

  1. Click on the photo in which you are tagged.
  2. The photo then opens up.  Hover over the bottom of the photo (shown below) you will see a black transparent bar with a few headings - click on Options.
  3. Then click Report/Remove Tag from the options list.
  4. Then Remove Tag - DONE!
