![]() How to STOP “Friends’ Hacking your Social Media Profile By Judi Gray Blue Bird Internet Marketing & Social Media We have all seen those suspicious Status Posts on friends Facebook profiles, that are out of the ordinary, rude, embarrassing or downright horrible and usually we come to the concussion that our friend hasn’t gone completely mad or lost all sense of respect… but that their Facebook account has been hacked by a so-called friend or by a family member playing a prank. The most common way that your Facebook Status can be hacked by others you know is by you leaving your iPod touch, phone, tablet or laptop logged in to your Facebook account, or setting it to remember your password when you log in. The other way that your account can be hacked by those known to you is by using a third party internet program which they either use your listed Facebook email address or your listed mobile phone number to schedule status messages to your account. Leaving your phone or ipod un-attended near friends is a big no-no! How to avoid status hacking & major embarrassment: 1. Log out of your Facebook account on all devices that you use including your mobile phone apps. It only takes a few short seconds for others to grab your phone, enter the app and type in an embarrassing update. 2. Avoid clicking “remember me” when entering your log-in details on public computers at the library, school and even at home. 3. Update your security preferences on your Facebook account so that your email address can only be seen by you. Your friends don’t need to see it anyway, as they can easily message you through your Facebook Page. 4. Don’t list your mobile phone number on your Facebook account. This is how friends will set up status posts through status hacker websites. 5. An oldie but an obvious one… don’t befriend anyone you don’t know personally…. It’s just not worth the risk – even if their profile picture is super cute. 6. If all else fails… unfriend the hacker friends from your Facebook and your life!
